UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI COLUMBIA =~ 2 vet INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS How could we be expected to draw for that anymore than for the double headers ? Your suggestion has not been discussed with our athletic authorities, and will not be unless one of them introduces/the subject. I'11 tell you why. About ten years ago we received permission for non-championship contests in Kansas City. Several were played and, I recall, we planned to make it a fixture. Two things stopped us. First, Oklahoma City, Des Moines and Omaha urged other Big Six schools to use their facilities. Then, one year you tentatively arranged to play six of your non-conference games in Kansas City, but finally played only four. Following that all such games were stopped by the conferences. I sought explanations from various faculty men. They thought the thing was getting out of hand and expressed the idea, "Give Allen an inch and he takes a mile", As you know regulations have been made more and more strict in regard to “home games". True, these restrictions have been relaxed somewhat in regard to the indoor track meet, and recently in regard to games with service teams. However, I am so firmly convinced that we would be slapped down if we requested a Kansas-Missouri game in Kansas City that I have no desire to suggest it unless and until I detect a change of attitude. And no such changed attitude is apparent to me at this time, Again I wish to state that if my proposal to join you in a double header has embarrassed you I am sorry. I thought it would be a help to all, especially to the Navy Relief fund. You don't think so and that is that. Of course, I have informed Hinkle and Snyder of your decision and the weason expressed by McBride in which he said that Kansas needs all of the money it can get and doesn't care the sharee I hope that Mac didn't make a mistakg, and assume that he quoted you correctly. Yours truly, George Edwards. P.S. Did you just have a hot round or do you consistently shoot golf under 80 ?
