: Dear Dean Schweg ler :

Iam sorry that I was forced to leave the Senate
meeting yesterday afternoon. I hed my boys on the floor in
varsity basketball practice and it was necessery for me to
return to them. I slipped over for the action on the Mquita-
tion courses, and as soon as thet was over I returned to my

I am sorry that I was not present to eid in what
discussion was necessery in regard to the Cammittee on Physical
Nelfere and Recreation. 4. Elbel came in and explained to irs.

_ Hylteen the discussion thet took place after my leaving. It wes

his feeling that the Senate wanted to conbine the two committees,
the Athletic Committee and the Comittee on Physical Welfare and
Recreation. | | ;

I just hed an oppertunity to talk to Dr. Kester over the
phone regarding my application to him as chairman of the Senate

_Advisery Comittee regarding the course in Equitetion, and in dis-

cussing with him the matter of the two committees I explein to
him that the Board of Regents hed stated thet no coach carld be
a member of the Athletic Committee and that of course prec luded
my name from being on that camittee, if they had one Athletic
Committee. However, the Boerd rescinded that rule when they put
Me. Gwinn Henry back on the Athletic Camittee,. ,

I would feel much embarrassed to be on that committee
et the present time with the present Boerd of Regents. Far thet
reason I am hoping, as I told Dr. Kester, that they will na con-
bine those camittees because I am much interested in being on the
Committee on Physical Welfere and Recreation, But I am adverse to
being @ member of the athletic beard. For thet reason I trust
they will keep them seperate. :

I am merely explaining these points to yo so that you

will understend my reaction. I am hoping that we can go forward
with the Physical Welfere and Recreation Comittee in e way thet

will be @ positive benefit to the student body and the University

as a whole.
