Dear Dutch: I heard of some of the difficulty that your wolf-pack had in getting through the women golfers. I just want to tell you that I will have it arranged so that the women will definitely allow the men to go through their foursome, fivesome, sixsome, or what have they. There are very few clubs that permit women to play on Saturdays and Sundays. I would not want to have such a rule now with the women playing such a large part in the support of the club. Their — makes it possible for the Country Club to maintain its existence, a en give it. However, I do want you to lmow that we are going to correct some of the difficulties of the club. I assure you that. Dutch, I haven't paid you for those last eggs that you brought in, and it looks as if I might lose the five dozen egg bet to you, but there is still a chance. Oct. 23, 1944 Dr. Forrest C. Allen, University of Kansas, Lawrence, KansSe Dear Phog: The other day I saw Taft Talbot pouring over a manuscript and I asked him what he was reading. He said, “It's a letter Phog Allen writes to his boys in the . service." Afterwards he handed me this copy of your No.11 “Jayhawk Rebounds" and while sitting at my desk after working hours I casually picked it up and thought I would glance through it. f However after making a start I read it all with intense interest. Phog, I think that this composite letter of yours is about the finest thing I have ever heard of anyone doing to keep in touch with the boys in the service. I can readily understand how grateful these boys are to get such a letter from you and with what intense interest they must look forward to the next one. It must take a lot of your time but I think you are repaid a hundred fold by the gratitude of these boys of yours in the Service.
