October 22, 1937. itr. Adrian J. Brennan, Aetna Casualty and Surety Coes Dear Mr. Srennan: Your very good letter of the 18th received, and I will reply at once. i am happy to know that you are still interested in the gaigo of basketball, and incidentally in my new book "Better Basketball, Ineorporating Technique, Tactics andi Tales". It is now on the press of the MeGraw-Hill Book Company, 330 West 42nd Street, New York City. We are reading the final proof on the book as the assignments are coming in now, I am very proud of this book, It is by far the best one that I have ever published, if I do say it. It is more complete and it is up to the minute. i am sending you a deseription of the contents which I hastily struck off for some one. You can get an idea from this deseription what it is like. If you would write to Curtis W. Mc~- Graw, vice president of the UcGraw-Hill Book Company, he could tell you about ‘when the book will be off the. press. : it is a pleasure to read your descrip- tion of the great game that you played in your upset victory. ft feel pretty certain that you will like the chapter on Tales as this deseribes six or eight high light contests that were pulled out of the fire by one means or another, I have used 163 photographic illustrations and 83 diagrams, I trust that you will like the book, and after you have read it pretty care=- fully I would like to have your criticism of it. I wish you lots and lots of guecess. WITHE, MANAGER October 18, 13937. Dr. Forrest C. Allen : University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Dr. Allen: Last year I wrote you regarding a new book which I had heard was , to be put out by you, and at the time you told me that it would ; not be out until the Fall of 1937. I wonder if this book is ready, wed and if so, where I can get one? At your convenience, will you please let me hear from you, and while I presume that it will b possible to get the book here in the East, I just want to certain that it is ready; and if not, when it will be Considering the fact that I was on the road practfcally all last Q Tw Winter, we had a fairly good season at the Seminary. * I was with the boys for only three games, two of which we won. Adal ° One of them was a very sensational upset, a game in which we beat | the leading high school team here in the State. It seemed a hopeless task, but we did it very nicely in an over-time game by a margin of 2 points. I guess it was more luck than anything since I shifted our captain, who plays a forward position - and he is one of the best forwards I ever looked at - to a guard position against the big star of this other team. The latter played forward so my captain had to shift to guard. I then shifted one of my guards, the left guard who, as you will perhaps recall, was always my key-man on the teams I coached, shifting him to a forward in order to play against a high Scorn uard. I then pulled my center and shifted him to a guard, and shifted the other guard to center. The thing worked out perfectly. The forward on this other team scored a fast basket right in the beginning of the game, and from that point on was held scoreless while my own capt@in, playing a guard position for the first time in his life, scored seven baskets and four fouls. However, we are hoping for the best although we lost two of our best men including the captain. For the first time in a long, long career of coaching, I am experiencing what it means to have a good man only to lose him. MIn here, of course, I could keep a player for four, five and even six years, but out in the schools it is something else again. I shall be pleased to hear from you whenever you find time to get down to a letter, but I understand perfectly that you are pretty well tied up there so will not be disappointed if you do not find time for an immediate reply. Dear Mr. Allen: The inclosed bulletin "Agricultural Resources of Kansas," published jointly by Kansas State College and the Kansas State Planning Board, is the second in a series dealing with the natural resources and raw materials available to industry in Kansas. This bulletin, like its predecessor "Mineral Resources of Kansas Counties," has been prepared for the convenience of local people interested and affected by the development of industries in their own towns and cities. Since industrial development in Kansas is most likely to occur as a joint enterprise of people living in cities and rural areas, we hope that you will find this bulletin of particular interest. Other similar bulletins dealing with resources effecting industrial development are in the course of preparation.
