Ebling, C. Sp., ie USS Farragut, c/o Fleet Postmaster, Sen Francisco, California. Dear Don: I got a letter from you Marjorie dated August 15th, and the next day yow letter came. Marjorie wanted to, thank me for what little I did in writing a letter of recommendation fer youe I told her it was a great pleasure to do anything I could for you at any time. And when your letter came it made the commumications from the family of Ebling complete. tes “ Your letter came to my home and both Bleammr and Mrs. Allen read it with moh interest. All the Allens agree that Don Ebling is about one of the finest young men that we know and we are hoping that this thing will soon be over and thet you will be able to return to Marjorie and to us. | There isn't much here going on except what I desire to put in my next Jayhawk Rebounds, which I am hoping to write tomorrow if possible. Mrs. Hulteen is kept intensely busy with the checking of all the persomnel of A~12, V-12 and civilians for the physical con- ditioning classes, but I will start on the Rebounds tomorrow and trust that I will have enough information for you that it will prove interesting. The University campus is a thing of beauty. August has not dried up the campus, but rather the foliage is lwurious. We have had cool weather now for the last three days and there is a tang of fall in the air. However, we realize that at this date, the 19th of August, there cannot be much hot summer weather ahead. We believe that the summer's backbone has been broken so far as heat is concerned. The gym is in use more than it has everbeen in its history since it was built in 1906, but we have a fine steff of fellows and the work is going along in fine order. We have basketball practice on Tuesdeys and Thursdays at 4:50 to 5:45 - not much time because the service boys really have to get out at 5:45. But I am endeavor- | | F ! before the fall séason begins. Elmer Scheake and Henry Shenk will handle our football, and with Dean Nesmith I think we have about the finest group of young men handling football that we have had in years _ and years. ‘I don't know how much material they will have, but it will be a fighting, well-trained outfit. | Well, Don, I will try to put the rest in my Rebounds letter. Ebling 412 West 47th Street Kansas City, Mo. Kansas City, Mo. June 10, 1942 Dear Doctor: I am writing you in regard to the possibility of securing a letter of recommendation for the Physical Education program of the United States Navy. Since the applications for a commission in the Physic¢al Education program have been discontinued, I am attempting to obtain a Chief Petty Officer's rating in Gene Tunney's program. His representative is due in Kansas City on the sixteenth of June; so, if possible, "Doe", {*d sure appreciate a letter of recommendation. How are all the Allen's? Please give them my regards. I am still working for Phillips, but under the present circumstances, I dont think it will be for long as eventually Unele Sam will be needing more men. I am trying to enlist as I believe in cetting in —— I like, rather than wait and get placed. The Ebling's are all in good health, and the youngest of them is certainly getting grown up and cute, Ray has been sent back to Bartlesville again, so I dont see much of the family, and must go on correspondence for news. Well, Doc, I hope you will be able to find time to help me, and shenks alot. Sincerely, Lom
