PAUL ENDACOTT s ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT April 16 3 1941 e B-124-41 Mr. Forrest C. Allen, Director of Physical Education, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Doc: Received your letter regarding Donaldean Maison of Lyons, Kansas, who was one of the thirty candidates for a scholarship from the Trust Fund, established by Frank Phillips Foundation, Inc. It heppens that I am Secretary of the Committee which administers the scholarships paid from this Fund; however, the restrictions in the Fund are rather definite and the Committee has little flexibility after it has sifted out from the large number of applicants the ten girls and twenty boys who take the nation-wide College Entrance Examination Board test. We have just received from New York the results of these tests and although the Committee has not yet considered them and issued the final awards, it appears that Maison's scores in this test were too low to place him among the six boys who will receive scholarships. This, of course, is confidential information and should not be passed on to Maison until after the public announcement is made. I am inclosing a booklet of regulations on the scholarship fund in case you are interested in reviewing same. From information I obtain here, I take it that all satisfactory arrangements have been consummat to Howard Engleman. Sincerely PE.RB
