July 25th, 1941 Mr. Don Ettinger 507 West Kansas Independence, Missouri Dear Don: I would call you the big “Red Mastiff" but when I address a letter to you I think of what your mother would have me call you and I know it wouldn't please her to have me undignify that name she gave you so I'm being very formal in my epistle this morning. I’m happy to learn that you were initiated last spring and I'm glad that you made out with a B average. Just remember, Don, that I'm very much interested in you and I will be disappointed if you fall short of the mark that I have set up for you. Sure, I want to see you make good in athletics and I want you to be an outstanding athlete, but fifteen years from now I want to see you come back on the campus at Mr. Oread and be one of the Bib Boys in the realm of business and a life of success. I'm pleased beyond measure that you have assured me about your training. Don, they can't stpp you in either sport or in your académic life if you do not put impediments in your way. Remember what I told you what Malde Royden, the great woman Sociologist of England said, "You can not break nature's law but you can break yourself against nature's law", So, after all, they can't stop you eee you permit them to do so. - Mitt and Bobbie play golf almost ee White Mitt pursues his law course, bobbie loafs after seven straight summers of University applica- tion of study. Eleanor is also taking a History course during the summer term preparing herself to enter the ete of Pennsylvania this fall along with Bob. She wants, to get away from home, I guess, and it might be a fine thing in her educational adjustment. ‘She has made a B average and I think that is pretty good for a girl who has no ambition to specialize like Bob in medicine and Mitt as in law. My daughter, Jane, who is an artist in Chicago, will be married the sixth of September here at Lawrerice. She is marrying a Princeton man named Mon. He was the stroke on the Fennsylveania crew. He's a big fellow about 6'3"--about your size, Don. We'll be looking forward to your coming back in September. _ Flease give my kindest regards to your family and your brother. I had always wished that he had played on a Jawhawk team. He was a great competitior. It must be in the blood, Don. Sincerely, Director of Physical Education and Recreation-Varsity Basketball and _ FCA: re Baseball Coach.
