March 24, 1942. Mire. E. Ro Elbel, 1713 Mississippi St., Lawrence, Kensag. . Dear Mrs. Elbel:s tes Thank you for your kind note. It was a great pleasure for us to express in this small way our best wishes for Eddie. Andi we are glad it made happy. We head a splendid time, but it seems too bad we have to wait until people co away to have those nice meetings. There is always so much to do and our work is so highly organized that it does happen that way. With best wishes to you and the children, I am F Very sincerely yours, Director of Physical Education and Recreation, PCA:AH Varsity Basketball and Baseball Coach. April 2, 1942. Dre Ee Rk. Elbel, Associate Director, Technical Training Command, Corps, 20 East archer Street, . Tulse, Oklahoma. Dear Eddie: We were pleased to get your letter and to know thet | you find your new work very interesting. Things are going along nicely here. It does seem kind of strenuous, though, to have three classes from _ 9:80 to 12:50 a couple of days a week. With administra- ‘tive interferences, long distance telephone calls, and so forth, that ere bound to come, I have a hard time either to put off the phone calls or to meet my classes. We are renting 10 or 12 acres from Dr. Spencer for the softhell fields, and Mr. Bayles is now grading the intrammal field. He is cutting a big diteh through the center to provide better drainage, then we are going to seed it and by next fall or next spring we should have a pretty good field. You may not like to hear this, but we are putting in the skating rink the way it was planned. We hope it will not be too bad, but will give some good winter skating for those who enjoy the sport under the lights at night. There will be a six inch wall all around it, so there won't be danger of losing the water through & break in the dem. Water will be drained in from the pool and the reservoir, so it should not cost us for thet. We are having varsity baskball practice every after~ noon, and have a couple of games scheduled with Kansas Remember me kindly to Mr. Miller. With best wishes for your success and happiness, I an Sincerely yours, : Director of Physical Education and Recreation PCA:AH Varsity and Baseball Coach. Dear Dr. Elbels I am sending the letters of recommendation, and hope they get the job done. It seems that every day we are missing seeing folks around the gym. And I suppose that will continue for some time. Carl Jessup sent me a card from Norfolk the other day saying he was getting checked into the service. Steve Meade has gone, and I expect others will be leaving soon. I suppose Zaster Sunday was different for you this year - did you even have a chance to realize it was Easter? If there is anything I can do for you here, let me know ~ I'll be glad to do it. Sincerely, due 3, 1962. Mire Fred Elleworth, Secretary, Alumni Association, | University of Kansas.
