HARRISON BROTHERS, AGENTS DOWNS, KANSAS May 24, 1940. Mr. Fred Ellsworth, Secretary Alumni Association, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas, Dear Fred :-= | I am writing you in regard to Max Kissell of Portis, Kansas who is undecided about where he will enroll in College next Fall. I believe it has dwindled down to KSAC or KU and if a little work is done he may choose our School. He is located at present working for the State in Topeka, Kansas ( 1409 Eden Court). His father is the famous Dynamo Kissell of the Portis Independent which he has edited for many years. J.E.Kissell has managed and sponsored the Portis Dynamos ( Independent Basketball Team) for 25 Seasons. You might write him also as he will have some say as to where Max goes to School. I sent a letter from J.E. to Phog Allen this morning and if interested you could read that letter, Max is a fine chap in all respects besides being a wonderful basketball player ( Supposed to be the Nation's high scorer for High School this past Season) and is a very good track man. He is also a good student and will be a valuable man for any College. I have been working on him for two years and also talking to his father and mother about KU and if you can suggest anything for me to do at this end I will gladly do so. You will be hearing from Vance Hall of Downs whom Phog predicts will set records to shoot at in basketball. I worked on this chap all through High School and never called on any one for help as all along was sure with the help of his parents that we had him tied down, About every School in this Section of the Country was after him. With kindest regards, and best wishes, Sincerely, MAY 25 1940 suber ks VU jISU , URN Serer Aa | ? eit at Sto > (3g PY Standard ¥ A protection (4 ‘4 = ea r 4Ny iHs¥* >
