UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI! ¢c OL UM BTA INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS February i, 1940. Dr. F. C. Allen, Director of Physical Education, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kan. Dear Dr. Allen: Congratulations for your victory at Manhattan last night. Sorry, however, that you couldn't quite cut it at Stillwater for Iba is needing a trimming. These two games indicate that your boys are getting back into their strides and will be hard to head off. Should we dexzfeat Iowa State, and your team continue its winning Ways, our game in Lawrence will overflow your capacity. And that situation rather amuses me, for 1 am in position to protest, as you did last year, that since we are furnishing part of the attraction we should be able to obtain admissions for some of our staff and relatives of players. Gwinn has written to Don that even Faurot cannot get in except perhaps in a standing spot. My players have asked for 25 tickets for members of their familes, but Spurling tells me they will not be available. That, to me, seems like a dirty deal since despite a sell-out here last year and with hundreds of our regular spectators begging for space we did send you 25 tickets, and % passed in a large group of “freshman players" with your team. Of course, the latter group was paid for by Kansas, but still you did get accommodations for forty or more of your people which appears to be better treatment than we can expect whén conditions are reversed. After reading what I have put down here I find that it makes me appear much more indignant than I feel. Actually I intended to be facetious. It is my opinion, as I told you last year, that the regular supporters of the home team shovld get the favors in emergenttes; that since we play home and home the visitors should not ask for nor receive Space when accommodations are taxed to the limit. Now that your are faced with the same problem which confronted us last year I imagine you will favor the same policy. Our vartg will not exceed fifteen. I expect to reward ~ some varsity squad members by taking them to Lawrence. We have thirteen on the squad, ten of which will be dressed for the game.
