Such a plan, if feasible, should cover the whole
field, save time, and still permit detailed discussion of
those experiments which appear to be most interesting and
important. Your reaction to this idea is requested.

Whatever type of committee report is prepared it
will be necessary for you to help me with it by passing on
either the results of experiments, or by sending me the
sources of data. In addition I will contact Mr. Porter
and the members of my committee.

By the way, have a. officials gradually are
letting teams take more than SO seconds in making substitutions
without charging a time-out. The rule is specific, I think,
and calls for play to be resumed in 30 seconds after a
substitute reports to the referee. That time limit does not
permit a team to hold an extended debate as to defensive
assignments nor to huddle and give a pep rally while opponents
are ready to play. The situation has arisen six times in

our games, and will become more acute if not checked.

And one other type of laxity I resent. While the
new rule permits any player to address the official, I feel
sure the change was never intefided to let down the sports-
manship bars. In both our Washington and Oklahoma games
players were guilty of loud protests to the officials and
assumed pugnacious attitudes without being punished. One
bad apple will ruin the barrel full, and unless we take a
stand I fear the practice will become as common as it is
in professional baseball.

I intend to bring up these matters at our next
meeting.

In the meantime, I hope all of your players go
blind and break their legs. Then, as soon as you play us
it will be all right if they recover quickly and win the
rest.
