BUTCHER, PRESIDENT EMPORIA R. G. CREMER, BURSAR September 23, 1938 Dr. F. G. Allen, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. My dear Dr. Allen: We are considering the reorganization of the personnel of our athletic board of control. Would you please send me information as to the personnel of your athletic board of control or whatever board controls the athletic policies of your institution? I do not care particularly for names of individuals but I am more interested in their relationship to the school and to the physical education or athletic department. To illustrate, at the present time our athletic board of control is composed as follows: 1. President of college, 2. director of athletics, 3. head coach of football, basket ball and track, 4. six faculty members outside of the department of physical education and athletics, 5. student president of our "K" Club, and 6. three student members from the Student Council. I would like to know who appoints or how your membership is elected. If you have members other than the faculty or students, please give their relationship to your college. We are seriously considering that the membership of our board of control should be composed of individuals not directly con- nected with the physical education and athletic program and using the coaches and physical education department members in an advisory capacity. What would you think of such a program? I would appreciate hearing from you at your convenience and desire to thank you very much for your cooperation in this matter. Allen Sasketball Coach ss CA RS University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear "Phog";- An impression I got at the time of the interpretation meet- ing in Kansas City, September 3, was that the Big 6 Conference is planning on appointing a Commissioner of Officials. It goes without saying that I would like to be considered in that capacity. if there is anything that you could do to help me, I surely would appreciate it. As far back as 1924, the assignment of officials was made from this office, as you will remember; and then, too, there were ten institutions in the Conference. In view of the fact that I have been doing “his for a number of years, I feel confident that an arrangement whereby one man making the assignments for both Conferences would work out most advantageously. I don't believe there would be any criticism due to my being connected with | Washington University and identified with the Missouri Valley Conference. For your information, I made the assignments for the Missouri Sehool of Mines this year. Had a chance to talk to Dr. Ewerhardt the other day after the Doctor had returned: from the NCAA executive meeting in Chicago. The basketball situation was talked of at great length with the feeling that it may be possible that a chamnionship in basketball be worked out at the end of the present season, just as we de- termine the champion in track and swimming. To this end ther was a committee apnointed--one from each district. if I remember correctly, he told me that you were appointed from this district. In fact, there are three coaches and five athletic directors to make up the committee, and you were one of Yhe coaches selected. EVANS October II, 1938 Mr. Forrest C. Allen Athletic Director Kansas University Lawrence, Kansas Dear Mr. Allen: We have a boy here at Georgetown, who is an excellent basketball player, that has had quite a bit of trouble with a bad knee. We have had some saccess with taping, but I am wondering if you could not recommend a brace of some kind that would do the trick better. This knee doesnt' bother the actions of the boy at all and the trouble only comes after a bad twist. The trouble has been diagnosed as a floating cartilage. This is the boys' senior year and he is extremehy anxious to finish out his career. I would certainly appreciate it if you could recommend to me a knee brace that would give the maximum protection against a twist. Kindest regards.
