UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI COLUMBIA March 14, 1939. INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS Dr. F. C. Allen, Director of Physical Education, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kan. Dear Dr. Allens: It was mighty kind of you to send the note of congratulations. Your thoughtfulness is deeply appreciated. You have always done such expert jobs of coaching your teams that I must admit considerable satisfaction accompanies each of the smell number of victories we are able to register. I feel that your work this year was not an exception to the rule for with a group whose ability was somewhat below those of recent years you had them in the running despite a poor start. I can't help complimenting you on the changed attitude during the last two or three seasons. It seems as if our teams put up as hard fights and as good exhib- itions as formerly but the relationship between both the players and the coaches has been of the highest order. Among friends victory loses none of its sweetnessiwhile defeat is robbed of some of its sting. : The fervent wish is mine that neither I nor my players will do anything to hinder the development of this fine spirit, and I hope that it may be absobed more and more by followers of both teams. Congratulations to you for such a thorough job in administration of the Fifth District play-offs. Yours truly, \ George R/Edwards.
