Allen Morningside College Coaching School Spirit Lake, Iowa Dear Dr. Allen: In a ratner belated letter from Mr. J. M. Saunderson of Morningside College, Sioux City, which was addressed to the Chicago branch of the Eastman Kodak Company and forwarded here, I have just learned of the coaching school at Spirit Lake. Mr. Saunderson inquired for our football films put when I noted on the program which he enclosed that you were to have charge of the basketball work, I wrote him immediately that I was sending a set of the films to you with the hope that you might find them useful. As soon as you have finished with the films, I shall be obliged if you will see that they are returned to us charges collect. Towa is my native state, and I am thoroughly familiar with the attractiveness of Spirit and Okoboji Lakes, and I sure do envy you your stay at that resort. I have no doubt but that you will find it much more com- fortable at this time of year than the temperature you would enjoy (?) at Lawrence. Dear Doe: I am so proud of my author's copy of “Better Basketball” that I hardly know how to start out thanking you for your thoughtfulness in remembering me. To say the least, it is a masterpiece and undoubtedly will go down in history, along with "My Basketball Bible", as being the original authentic thesis on the subject of basketball for the reference of future generations. It is quite generous of you to again include in your book tales about some of us old-timers, whose exploits in comparison to the performance of youngsters of today, in my opinion, were very feeble demonstrations, May I congratulate you and the boys on their performance in conference this year and particularly in your recent victory over Nebraska. Allen Director of Physical Education Lawrence, Kansas Dear Doc: I had a talk with Harold Schmidt this morning about my playing with Kappelman and he said that A. A. U. rules were different from Intercollegiate rules, and therefore my playing in the Freshman game would automatically make me a professional, al- though this rule does not apply to the Freshmen. If this is the case, it will be impossible for m to compete in this game on January 7. Schmidty also informed me that he did not know whether playing with another team would hurt my standing. He is going to look into this matter for me and try to get permission fram the A. A. U. for me to play in this game. If this is the ruling for me, I think it will apply to Noble and the rest of the boys as well. I would like to play in this game very much, and I know Noble does as well, but all this will have to be looked into before the game. I thought that you might be able to help us in getting in the clear, thereby enabling us to play at this time. Please advise me about these rulings at your earliest possible convenience.
