Allen Director of Physical Education University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas My dear Mr. Allen: Long before I received your letter I had decided that it was un- fortunate -I had attended the Summer Conference. I talked entire- ly too many times and said too many things. In the first place I was referring to your Reorganization when I spoke in the morn- ing and said that "Up until about one or two years ago it was impossible to find a candidate in a Physical Education Depart- ment in Kansas." I realize full well that my opinions regard~ ing the Physical Education, Physical Education and Coaching, Physical Education Departments and the Kansas University Phys- ical Education Department are of absolutely no value. When I mentioned the fact that your coaches were not in attend- ance at the summer conference I did it to a very select group and did not realize it would bring about a controversy. Either Miss Dunkel or Mr. Henre must have told you of my comment. I made the comment to make the point that until the University Coaches get interested in Physical Education we do not need expect our high school coaches to get interested in Physical Education. The fact that they are on a 93 month salary is of no interest to me whatever. Most of the Physical Education instructors who were in attendance at the conference are on 4 9 month salary. Please accept my apologies for any interpretation you have placed on anything I may have said that is critical of the Physical Education Department of the University of Kansas. With the exception of the fact that I never seem to be able to learn to keep my mouth shut I thought it a very fine con- ference. ery sincere Evan E. COLLEGE CAMP, WISCONSIN BUSINESS MANAGER (ON LAKE GENEVA) Dr. Forrest C. Allen Basketball Coach University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allens: Thanks for your letter of the 26th. I, too, will be looking forward to our meeting in April. I have sent you under separate cover a copy of a little booklet one of my students and I developed last year on Objective Tests of Individual Activities. I hope you might find it useful in some of your courses at the University of Kansas. What is the reaction in your conference toward the omission of the center jump this year? Have they accepted it as much as the west coast did a year ago? We are sensing some real criticism in these parts around the lack of any breathing spell anywhere in the game as a result of the omission of the jump. Be interested to get your reaction.
