THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED MECHANICS LAWRENCE, KANSAS Memorandum for Dr.F.C.Allen, in re. Commencement Golf. The committe agreed that it would be worth while to try to secure a team of alumni to compete with a team of seniors. It was suggested that (a) Fred Ellsworth write to the chairman of the various alumi groups,in the cities of Kansas and elsewhere, asking for a list of the golf playing alumni in the city and a statement as to their handicap in their local club. There was no thought of approaching them with regard to play- ing on an alumni team at commencement; merely get a list of _ names with each man's handicap. (b) With the lis# in hand a study of the list could be made by the committee ( Chiefly Glen on this) with a view toward making a creditable match. (c) The men selected for the alwmi team were then to be high-pressured f? into coming up for the day, Sat. June 10, to participate in the* game. It would likely be necessary to select two or three times the number of men required for the team in order to get enough of them here to form a team. (ad) It was contemplated that the team should con- sist —- men on each side. It may be that instead of (a) above, the better plan would be for Dr.Allen to secure the names of the alumi ‘Chairmen from Fred Ellsworth and do all of the correspond= ing himself. The thought here is that Fred, not being a golfer, might not get ge across to the chairmen exactly what we wants; i.e. first,a list of the alwmi in each town who play golf, and second, each man's handicap. er
