AVE HEADQUARTERS A.A.F. Pilot School (Basic) WACO ARMY AIR FIELD WACO, TEXAS In reply refer to: 5 February 1945 Dr. Forrest C. Allen Basket Ball Coach University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Doc: + have just finished reading my copy of "Rebounds" which came in the morning mail. I was quite thrilled to learn what a lot of the boys are doing and where they are stationed. It sure tends to bring back a lot of fond memories. Wouldn't it be swell to have a big get together once all this trouble is over with. I noticed where Jack Ballard has been at Camp Bowie, Texas. This is about 150 miles from here at Waco. We played the Camp Bowie basket ball team a couple of weeks ago but Jack wasn't with them, so possibly he has shipped out. We return a game with the same team in a couple of weeks and I wiil try to look him up. The Kansas Basket Ball team is still knocking them over Doc. We read the scores all the time and I always look to see how Kansas is doing. Sure will be pulling for you to cop another one. \ We have had a great time here at Waco Army Air Field this basket ball season. Our Commanding Officer is quite a sports fan and we have all the support in the world. I had a two months pre-season basket ball practice using all the fundamental drills I used at Kansas. And maybe you think they didn't pay off. We won 16 straight and finally lost a close one to Rice 39-35 on their court. A margin of four free throws. I wasn't with the team that night as I was sent to San Antonio on Temporary Duty. All in all we have beaten TCU once, Sm twice by 13 points and Baylor by about 40 points. Our record to date is 20 out of 21.
