Hq.Sad. M.O.T.G.-81 USMCAS Edenton,N.C. 11 February 1944 Dear Dr,Allens: Much has happened since our last corre snondence, We enjoyed your Chrisbmas edition of Jayhawk Rebounds No.6, On 1 January 1944 we received our orders to move out to a new station, We worked Christmas day and moved to our new station on new years day, unpacked Sunday and were ready to operate Monday morning. Our skipper is a hard working man and a real fellow with his men. He works right along with us so we don't mind putting out fow a fellow like that. He is well liked and respected by all his men. We have started a little basket ball since we came to our new station . We have played five and won five so the boys are doing all right. Most of the boys are college men and know what the game is about. It would be a coached dream to have all that material for a college team all on one camnpus, My new assignment is Athletic,Recreation,& Welfare Officer for M.O.T.G-81. We had a agquadron at Cherry Point and now we have a group or 6 squadrons, Also received an increase in the pay envelope starting 31 January 1944,with permission to wear two bars on my shoulders, That was quite a thrill when the word came that I had been moved up a rank, I hope I can do the job well and be worthy of their confidence. There is much to do here but I am enjoying my work and in a few weeks we will have some recreation facilities for the men, We had to start from scratch, Now we have a swimming pool to be finished in Avril, a temporary recreation hall to be used until we get our nermanent one which will be finished in September, our picture show opens 13 February, and we have a minature gym about ready to move into for boxtng and wresttring. At least they know we are aboard, Rec: a letter from Fred Harris and he is at Princeton as an Ensign, He did have a very good basket ball. team at Richmond,Fla,Too bad he had to go off and leave them, Mrs.Griff is with me, The housing conditions here are far from adeauate, We are living in the home of Budge Dixon,Judge of Superior Court of N.C. We have a very large room, We take our meals out but so far it has been auite satisfactory . The officers club will soon be available for the wives too so that will help. It is time for me to get to work so I will close for now, We wish you much good luck at the Alma Mater, Ag th
