ADDRESS REPLY TO COMMANDING OFFICER U. S. NAVY V-12 UNIT, U.S.C. AND REFER TO: U. S. NAVY V-12 UNIT UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA UNIVERSITY PARK, LOS ANGELES, 7, CALIFORNIA 10 August 1944 Dr. F.C, Allen Director of Physical Education University of Kansas Lawrence, kansas Dear Doc: Thanks for the JAYHAWK REBOUNDS. They're great. Although I'm still on this side of the pond I get many happy moments reading your “newsie." I dontt know of any one who is doing so much good for the men in the service as you, Doc, Your teachings, your name, and your good sportsmanship is being carried to all parts of the world by the men who have been associated, in any way, with you. . I am proud to hold you as 1-A in all ways in my mind. To think of you reminds me of another great, Percy Parks. Well, Yoc, now to tell you something of what I®m doing. I'm stationed at the University of Southern California as an instructor in physical education, V=-12 program. I have been here since March 20. Prior to that time I was at the naval training station, San Diego. There I was in the visual education department, showing looking films. Undoubtedly you have visited this socalled campus. It doesn't compare to a second rate high school in Kansas. We do not have any athletic facilities here. One small field Bor everthing. One of the chiefs here is an alumnus of USC and don't think I don't give him the Once over on the USC-Kan- sas game in the N.C.A.A. tournament in 1940. Boy, I well remember that game. Doc, one of your players of last season is here. Homer Sherwood. He is doing well but will have to hurry to make the squad here this year. Have some good men on hand at the present time. Please note my change in address. Give Mrs. Allen, Mit and all the gang a hello for me. ee igh Late
