Allen Dniversity of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Doe: Received your weleome letter this morning . In regard to my time at the University of Colorado, I do not have any credits there or anything that will bother my entrance or participation in athletics at the University next year. I never did matriculate at the University of Colorado and I only attended classes for two days. I never paid any entrance fees or tuition at all, so I guess that we will not have to worry about anything. I have quit my job and am devoting all my time to the preparation of my lessons. I have sent in all the lessons that I have received to date, I have gotten my first lesson back from the professor and I got a B on ite I dont think that that is so bad. ‘The professor wrote on it that it was avery good paper. : I received a létter from the correspondence bureau this morning and they told me that I would not be allowed to send in any more than eight lessons a week. At that rate I will not be able to get the two courses out of the way in time before school starts. Will you see if it would be allright for me to take the other course on Foods and Nutrition at Bhe same time that I am taking this other course. I like this course on Elementary Economies very much, agd I am enjoying it very mach. My studying seems so much easy for me now than when I was at the University before. I guess that I am much more settled now and it just comes easier for MGe If I can take both courses at the same time and receive credit for them both at the same time I would like to do so. I can get two lessons a day and if the bureau will only allow me eight lessons a week I will be idle for the three other days. Well I must be closing now as I have to get started on my course. I just received four more lessons from the bureau but as yet I have not received any more of my graded lessonse I will keep you posted as to how I make out on them. I remain, Yours very truly, oy Max Gray Harlingen, Texas July 13, 1940 I went to the University of Colorado in the fall of 1937 but I never paid any entrance fees or did I attend class for more than two days. I was told that thentrance fees for me would be about $45.00 but they were over $100.00 dollars and I did not see my way clear to go there at that time. I did not matrieuzate at the University of Colorado. 209 East Polk St. Harlingen, Texas te Hai fs p ih ion ots Hag’ if sgsig in i I ai she 3 | i ne E fi in jh. 34s igi k ce ay z aa AP = j ni ie Hi ial # tap Hn zs t | aia ie s HE i = yf a a iy j 4 aoe We : i il He a | itt , co at Gagl 2B | ipagd af it : fie, alii Ht bit iets > an tie Bh i iene Fi i seid yay ii iat ni rt i uy adi, yf ip re i iy ia Hs a ti ti tf Gis ui q iache Hy 7}! “Director of Physical Mducation and Recreation, Sincerely yours, PCAs H John Fiaveks Glenn 710 EAST FOURTH ST. Allen Varsity Basketball Coach University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Deer Dr. Allens Our mutual friend, John Buescher, has now been home exactly a month and with the type of work that he has been doing this summer at the plant, I believe you will be surprised to see his physical development through the chest and also in the biceps. We are indeed pleas- ed with the progress and training that you and the mem- bers of the Kansas faculty have been able to give John and if he can pass his make-up courses during the next two months perhaps he can repay you for your untiring efforts by doing an Ss Job on the eee. court this year. Incidentally, I have another prospect working on the platform this summer by the name of Art Dufelmeier, a Senior in the Beardstown High School at the present time. Art is an outstanding football player and handles a basketball in 2s fashion comparable to that of the Ol- son Terrible Swedes of Coffeeville, Kansas, when they were in their prime. Dutch Lonborg is booming to get Art to matriculate at Northwestern in the fall of '41 as he saw him play at the State Tournament es a Junior this last year, and in™ his usual conservative manner stated that young Dufelmeier with his quick reaction and marvelous pair of hands could make the Wildcat. Five with little trouble. Before Northwestern grabs him and makes a “lounge lizerd" or “cocktail hound" out of him, I wanted to bring him to your ettention and better still have you meet him personally. 4 Mother and I would like nothing better than to have you and Mrs. Allen spend a few days with us before school starts next fall. However, we are in the dark as to what date to set as we do not know your schedule, so we will count.on hearing from vov in the near future so that a tentative date can be set for your visit to our city. This did prove thet she must be having:a grand time along with her work which, of course, indicates that she is happy in Chicago. Allen Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dec: Received your weleome letter and was very glad to hear from you. I have been getting along very nice- ly with my correspondence work, but he University does not keep me supplied with lessons and I often have sev- eral days with nothing to do. I wish that you could pur- suade the correspondence study bureau to send the remainder of the course to me so that i will not have any days with nothing to do. I will only send in eight lessons a week if that is their ruling but, I do not have any time to waste on these courses if I want to be eligible to play basket- ball next year. 7 : I have been getting B and Bplus on my assignments that I have turned in to the bureau.e. I like the course very much and do not have any extreme difficulty in preparing my assignments. In regard to that other course I have never heard any thing from the bureau about it. In your letter I understood you to say that you had told them to enroll me in the course as soon as possible. If they will do this I will send them a check for the tuition as soon as I hear from them. So far I have only received 12 lessons from the university and at that rate I will never get through with the courses in time for enrollment at the proper time, If you will see what you can do about the holdup of the lessons I will greatly appreciate it. Also if they are enrolling me in Foods and Nutrition please notigy Rowlands to send me the Texts for the course, and to bill me for the same, Used texts will be alright. Will be looking forward to heraing from you very soon.
