John Fiaveks Glenn 710 EAST FOURTH ST. BEARDSTOWN, ILLINOIS July 11, 1940 Dr. Forrest C. Allen Varsity Basketball Coach University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Deer Dr. Allens Our mutual friend, John Buescher, has now been home exactly a month and with the type of work that he has been doing this summer at the plant, I believe you will be surprised to see his physical development through the chest and also in the biceps. We are indeed pleas- ed with the progress and training that you and the mem- bers of the Kansas faculty have been able to give John and if he can pass his make-up courses during the next two months perhaps he can repay you for your untiring efforts by doing an Ss Job on the eee. court this year. Incidentally, I have another prospect working on the platform this summer by the name of Art Dufelmeier, a Senior in the Beardstown High School at the present time. Art is an outstanding football player and handles a basketball in 2s fashion comparable to that of the Ol- son Terrible Swedes of Coffeeville, Kansas, when they were in their prime. Dutch Lonborg is booming to get Art to matriculate at Northwestern in the fall of '41 as he saw him play at the State Tournament es a Junior this last year, and in™ his usual conservative manner stated that young Dufelmeier with his quick reaction and marvelous pair of hands could make the Wildcat. Five with little trouble. Before Northwestern grabs him and makes a “lounge lizerd" or “cocktail hound" out of him, I wanted to bring him to your ettention and better still have you meet him personally. 4 Mother and I would like nothing better than to have you and Mrs. Allen spend a few days with us before school starts next fall. However, we are in the dark as to what date to set as we do not know your schedule, so we will count.on hearing from vov in the near future so that a tentative date can be set for your visit to our city.
