Harlingen, Texas April Slst. 1940 Dr. Forrest C,. Allen Director of Physical Education University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Doe: Just thought I would drop you a line to find out if you could recommend a man to fill my position here in Harlingen. The Superintendent of Schools, Mr. E. C. Deering, esked me yesterday to write you and find out if you could supply him with another Kansas Jayhawker. He would like to have a man that had 18 hours in Methematics, or a minor, as he would teach mostly Com. Arithmetic and Algebra as I have done. His job would be to assist in football, head coach in basket ball, head track coach with special emphasis on basket ball. He would teach five classes a day with one off period. : They have a new field house just completed last sunmer that has a 86' X 50* playing court, six baskets and seats arcund 2000. He would have a pretty fair team returning next year with five lettermen back. We won the conference championship again this last year. I have fesigned my position here after four years so that I can go to school again and get a masters degree. Doc. I am wondering if I might use your name as a reference in case I need it? Hoping to hear from you again, I am, Respectfully Gordon Gray High School Harlingen, Texas
