The visiting team is to send to the home team, at least eight days in advence of the game, the names end numbers of all players who will make the tripe f. Bach school is to exchenge with all others squad information, primarily for pre-game publicity. This information should include number, name, position, height, weight, home town, year on the varsity, men lost by graduation, veteran letter-men returning, and any team records which may add to newspaper intereste ge The type of bell used by each school is as follows: 1) Iowa State: Riddell 2) Kansas: Rewlings Naismith Lace, or Rawlings Molded. 3) Kansas State: Rawlings Naismith Lace. 4) Missouri: Riddell 5) Nebraska: Riddell 6) Wklahona: Riddell he Ten men is the mamimum that a coach may take on a trip. There is no rule on the number that may be used at hanes (Director's rule.) 2. RULES INTERPRETATIONS ®&e On balls which go out of bounds behind the basket, the twelve-foot lane shall be permitted in which to make the pass back into the court. This, of course, does not apply to out of bound plays following a field goale b. Whenever a ball is awarded to a team out of bounds in its front court, the officiel should hand the ball to the player in the front court, step aside, and say "Play", and be sure the player is in a position to playe ‘Basketball Interpretations, page 2e Ce In the three-second count in the lane, the fiveesecond count out of bounds, and the ten-second count in advancing the ball to the front court, it is asked that the officials use the so-called “artillery man's count". In other words, the coaches favor a slightly long second as they feel that officials have been hurrying, particularly the three-second and the five-second count. It is suggested that officials practice this count with a stop wetche de The official score book for the game is to be left at the scoring table at the half. ee Attention is called that the officials take particular pains to see that the scorer knows on whom the foul has been callede It is recommended that the official in the most favorable position get this information to the scorere f. In designating field goals, it is asked that the official raise both hands up, as in a touchdows; that one hand be raised up for a free throwe In designating no goal, both hands crossed parallel to the floor, as in the missed point after touchdown. Ze It is asked that the official scorer for each school have printed in the back of the score book the pertinent rules regarding timing and scoringe he It is the desire of the coaches that Rule 7, Section 9, reletive to running with the ball, be observed. Especially that part of the rule which pertains to a man running with the ball in attempting to get around a guard who is in defensive position. ie Coaches approve a little slower whistle on held ballse In other words, they want the officials to give that one tug that is permissible before held ball is callede je Would like to call attention to Rule 7, Section 10, particularly to the wording that fumble at the end of a dribble is not a double dribble. ke A substitute, when reporting at the scorer's bench, must have his sweat suit offe le The coaches would like to call the attention of the officials to Rule 14, Section 7, relative to disconcerting the free thrower on the free throw lanée VARSITY BASKETBALL = 2nd sem. dinette: — ¥ (ham AA meat Onan [ton or ¢ \ Bob Allen OK ( Ptr )% Jemes Arnold one. “* Don Ebling OK - - © pan rogpen =O KK & & Be mbor” GAC ee 1 Bob Johnson ‘Ox { doln Kline -€9Ky 14 Joim Kru oe 7 Ralph Miller jf Bob orNei ae 1G vdewitt Potter Okt (2 Jack Sands 24** Or /¢# Bruee Voran Xk) |] Bob Woodward 64 Jeck-mgel Dom Messe SM Cae Mather fre Ted Provcea ee ae rica oF iat 1 sii a hiss ‘. Dr. Forrest Ce Allen, Lawrence, Kans&Se Could you meet Saturday instead of Sunday? ‘Wire reply todaye George Re Edwardse Reply — Saturday satisfactorye Why not meet in the morning? Forrest C. Allene UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI COLUMBIA _ INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS April 10; 1939 Dr. Fe Ge Allen, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kan. Dear Dr. Allens In your absence your secretary answered my letter regarding the proposed basketball schedule meeting. She wrote that you had notified her that the meeting was to be held on Saturday, April 15. I must have been mistaken for my notes at the meeting read "the Sunday closest to April 15". At any rate the others have replied to the notice and all say they can be on hand on the 16th, Sunday, as I requested. I hope that this does not interfere with any program you have arranged, but if it does let me know right away and we must call the thing off. It won't do any good to try to meet unless all can be present. As stated before, the meeting is called for 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 16 at the Hotel Gpntinental. Yours truly, April 22, 1989 - » George Re Udwards, Basketball Coach, “University of Missouri, . Dre Fe Ce Allen, Director of Physical Education, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kan. Dear Dr. Allens It was my understanding, as a result of our meeting in Chicago, that the Big Six coaches are to gather in Kansas City on Sunday, April 16, to draft next year's schedule. The purpose of this letter is to be certain of that understanding, for if one of us will be unable to attend the meeting must be postponed. I have written to Menze and given a rather full explanation of our discussion in Chicago, and re= quested his attendance in Kansas City. Also, I asked him to reply immediately as to whether or not he can be on hands To make things certain I am asking you and the others to communicate with me immediately as to your attendance. Then, later this week I'll report to each regarding the vote. No place and time were set in Chicago so I am taking this in my own hands by setting the meeting at the Hotel Continental at 2:00 P.M. In the meantime I am sending notes to each of the officials and telling them we hope to have some rather definite dates very soon. Yours truly, George R. Hdwards.
