February 16, 1942, Mr. Don Isett, Cedar Rapids, Towa. Dear Don: I just wanted you to know that we followed through on your suggestion regarding young Grutgmacher, of Onagae I kmow his father very well, and sppke at Onaga at Commencement time a couple of years agoe ~ Charles Grutgmacher is a senior at the University, and I learn that he is not particularly interested in football. He is not very large, and although he may have been a high school star, he apparently did not care to compete at the University. Mr. Earl Palkenstien, ‘ financial secretary of the Athletic Association, whose | home is at Onaga, has talked to the boy, as has Vic Hurt. So I believe we have done everything we can'in the matter. I was eager to do everything we could to help the boy, but since he is in his senior year he apparently isn't interested now in going out for athletica. I want to tell you again what a pleasure it was to see you at Iowa City, and to thank you for your courtesy With kindest regards, I an Very sincerely yours, : _ Director of Physical Education and Recreation FCA:AH : Varsity Basketball and Baseball Coach.
