CEDAR Rapips, IowA February 20, 1942 Dr. Forrest ©. Allen Director of Physical Education University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Dr. Allen: I was pleased to receive your letter of the 16th, and evidently you did not understand:my suggestion concerning young Grutzmacher. I know Charles very well, but I did not mean that he would be interested in foot- ball. It is his younger brother, Kirke Grutzmacher, who is a Senior in the Onaga, Kansas high school, of whom I was telling you, and whom I would like to see enter K.U, this next fall. He weighs about 185 lbs., has played tackle for four years in high school, and unless I am no Judge of football players, will make somebody a mighty nice athlete. He does not need any financial assistance, which makes him doubly attractive to us, or to any other school. I thoroughly enjoyed our visit in Ipwa City, and it was a pleasure to entertain you and the boys, and hope I shall have that opportunity again in the future. The game was one of the roughest I have seen in years, but it gave me a lot of satisfaction to see us come out on the long end of the score. Knowing how you can bring a team along, and show improvement from game to game, where lots of other coaches start out a season well, but seem to slide back as the season advances, I still think you have a wonder- ful chance to win the Big Six title again this year. I am sure you enjoyed turnirg the tables on Iowa State at Lawrence recently, and by such a convincing margin. I saw Clarence McGuire in Chicago this last week, as well as Bill Rice, and both were looking fine. Bill told me you delivered my greetings to him, and I was very pleased to know that you remembered it. Wishing you continued success, and with kindest regerds, I am Don Isett DGI:cag .
