Dear Mr. Beauchamp: ;

Superintendent Swift came into my office last week with
a bad shoulder, asking professional advice. I was happy to do what I
could for him. This week he went down to see Dr. Francisco, and Dr.
- Franciseo apparently agreed one hundred per cent with our diagnosis.
I have Dean Nesmith, our trainer, helping out on the shoulder, and Dr.
Francisco said thet is exactly what should be done.

I am writing you and Mrs. Beauchamp this short letter
of greeting and good wishes. Mr. Swift and I spent a long time talking
about the wonderful Beauchamps at Holton. Whenever I think of Holton
I always associate it with the Beauchamps because in my mind they stand
out above everyone else there, even considering the Becks. Won't you
please give Mrs. Beauchamp my kindest regards and best wishes?

Things are moving along pretty rapidly in a naval and
military way here on the hill. It is almost an Army and Navy hotel.
The step of the co-eds has been quickened by the manifestations of the
armed forces here on the hill. You hear their songs and their marching
cadences resounding along Mount Oread, and we are just a part of all
the environment around us.

&% the noon hour I stand and watch the students, and
they, watching the naval and military units marching by, immediately
swing into a quicker step and a more erect posture. Truly, we are all
getting war-minded, and war-minded we must be to whip those squareheads,
slit-eyes and spaghetti-benders. :

But I must quit now; however, I could not refrain from
writing a short note of best wishes to you two grand people.

Dr. Lawrence Weodruff, our Registrar, referred your letter to the
Athletic Office, and Mr. Falkenstion, the financial secretary,
referred the letter to mo. We are happy indeed to know that you are
_ interested in matrioulating at the University of Kansas.

The fact that you are desirous of taking a course in Aeronautical
Engineering convinces me that you are coming to engage in a very int-
eresting and a very difficult course. {I am sure that you are proficient
in mathematios, else you would net choose the engineering profession.

I note further that you are interested in working your way through
school. We have a high peroentage of boys whe do this, but there are
very few of them who een work their way through school, compete in
athletics, and make a high grade in Aeronautical ihgineering.

Athletios will be at a very low ebb during the war. There will be
very few football games scheduled, and those that ere scheduled will
be with nearby opponents. However, I am sure the University of
Kenses will have a football team if the other Big Six schools compete.
With the Army end the Navy selecting the University as training ground
for officer material, I am sure that we will have a v .
ic program. A great deal of it will be intramurals, but we plan to
develop our intramural competition to make up for what we lack in
intercollegiate competition. ie have'a five-day physical conditioning
progran for 011 men who are subject to Selective Service or are in the
Army and Navy reserves.

We are playing baseball this spring and we will endeavor to carry
out to the best of our ability an athletic programe

Won't you write me and toll me in what work you are proficient so
that we might aid you in obtaining a job? ‘Trusting that you will be

I was glad to receive your letter of February 27 and
incidentally I should have answered it sooner but I just got back to
the bank after two weeks in bed with the mumps. It was rather a
childish trick but that is exactly what happened. I got them from
my son who just went through it.

I am glad to have the information relative to
Max Kissell and I am today writing to J. E., his father at Portis.
J. E. was quite an athlete in his day and as I recall, he had quite
a basketball team in the years of 1911 to 1915 which he called the
Portis Dynamos. I am pleased to renew my acquaintance with you again
as I have been guite an admirer of your basketball teams through the
years and have had some very delightful evenings in the Coliseum
watching your clubs play. Noticed that you took « patched up team
to Omaha last night; had quite a game with Creighton University.

I would appreciate your droping in to see me when
you are in Lincoln as I would like to visit with you further.
