STANDARDS FOR SPECIAL PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND PHYSICAL
EDUCATION SUPERVISOR'S CERTIFICATES TO BE

EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1, 1940

I. Standards for special physical education certificate

a. Degree or diploma from an institution approved by the
board of educational examiners

b. Professional requirements for advanced elementary certifi-
cate or standard secondary certificate

ce. American government, 2 semester hours

d. Not less than 20 semester hours in physical edueetion distrib-
uted as follows:

(1) 6 semester hours should be in courses covering
principles, edministration, methods, and supervi-
sion of physical education

(2) 4 semester hours in courses covering the principles
of the school health program

(3) 10 semester hours in courses covering methods of
specialized physical. education activities. These
credits should only be given for lecture hours
and not for participation on an athletic team or
field work

II. Standards for physical education supervisor's certificate

a. Professional and academic requirements for the special
physical education certificate

b. Additional training: 6 semester hours in general school
supervision and supervision of physical education

Ce. Experience: Four years of successful teaching experience
