#2 4 = 7; UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS : LAWRENCE a DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION April 19, 1939 Dr. Fy C. Allen University of Kansas Dear Dr. Allens In reply to our discussion of the advisability of recommending that the physical education department offer horseback riding courses for credit, I am most anxious that such courses be recommended. After talking with Mr. Mott and studying over the outline of his courses, I am sure that excellent work can be given the students, both the elementary and the advanced rider. | I am enclosing a recommendation from Miss McCollough of the Kansas State Teachers College of #mporia where Mr, Mott has previously given instruction. I am most enthusiastic about the courses, and I feel they will meet the needs of many students. Sincerely, Ruth Hoover RH: EEH Ene. 1 KANSAS STATE TEACHERS COLLEGE OF EMPORIA THOS. W. BUTCHER, PRESIDENT DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION FOR WOMEN EMPORIA, KANSAS April 14, 1939 Miss Ruth Hoover, Director of Physical Education for Women, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansase Dear Miss Hoover: Mr. Gayle Mott has asked me to write you concerning his qualifications as an instructor in riding. Mr. Mott has a good personality, is pleasant and agreeable. In my estimation he is a good instructor of beginners. He inspires conficence and courage in his students. You doubtless know that he did not complete a college education, and has not had much instruction in methods and theory of teaching. I do not consider him from the point of view of a college graduate at all, but as a person who can teach people to ride, and one who knows how to menage horsese Sincerely, Edna 11 Cabra EM: jl Edna McCullough, Director of Physical Education for Women.
