Dear Sir: With the inectivation of this base, one of mv last official duties is indeed a@ pleasant one and affords me the opportunity of personally thanking you for vour splendid efforts on our behalf. Though we did not play your team in basketball last year, our lads alweys figured that they could have extended your boys and I think they live in the mental illusion that they might have been on top. Since your club had whipped us twice previously, they were aching for another try but circumstances vrohibited this. I know that vlaying your fine teams meant a great deal to them and made our tour of duty in Kansas, one of pleasant memory. If ever you are in New York City and do not look me un through the New York Board of Education, I shall come charging out here and it will have to be water pistols at twenty vaces. Be assured of the fields appreciation of all vour coonveration and the splendid verformance of your team here. I am endeavoring to find the address of Mrs. Marion McDonald Belgard and I do not know whether her office is in the Court House in Kansas City, Missouri, or in Independence, Missouri. Will you kindly ask Mrs. Rice to write me, giving me her address. I am sending you a Jayhawk Rebound, a publi- cation we get out for our boys in the service. Kansas City 3, Missouri Dear Bob: I called the Registrar's Office this morning and suggested that they send you as much information as they have concerning school enrollment. I told you that inquiries had depleted them of every bit of printed matter that they ordinarily would have on hand. ‘The Separation Centers of the Armed Forces — have asked for this material in such quantities that they are entirely out of practically all of the printed mtter that they ordinarily have. The infor- mation they send you should give you some information regarding the college. I have also asked that they send you secion 2 of the catalog. They are out of secion 1. I am sending you a brochure concerning instructions to students de~ siring to major in the Department of Physical Education. This department is in the Sehool of Education. I suggest that you call your principal at Raytown High School and ask that they send your transcript to the Registrar of the University of Kansas. By having this in to the Registrar's Office ahead of tine, it will be much easier for you when you come to enroll, as all the preliminary acorediting work will have been done before you arrive. 7 : I want to tell you how happy I am that you are going to enroll at the University of Kansas, and I know that you will like it. It was good to have your two foster parents Mr. and Mrs. Rice, with us for a visit as it is pleasant to have Bill with his bubbling good humor. Won't you write me and tell me of any other wishes you have in the matter, or feel free to ask any questions that you desire. . Be sure to check up on the high school to see that a transcript of your grades gets out at an early date, and then let me kmow when you are sure the transcript has been sent, and I will check at the Registrar's Office. With every good wish to all of you, I an, Sincerely yours, Forrest C. Hume, District Manager 223% South Main Street Ottawa, Kansas Dear Marions It was nice of you to write me as you did on September 8, 1945. I am just finishing another Yayhawk Rebound and (this may be the last one, which is #18) I want you to have the issue coming we I shall mail it to yon in a few days. Thanks for your kind words as I assure you I appreciate them. It is a lot of fun. I imagine a fellow should mix pleasure with his work, and I have been able to do that. I highly treasure the friendship o* the boys. By the way, Marion, will you kindly give me the mileage from Ottawa to Olathe. I want to allow .05 a mile for your travel from Ottawa to Olathe when you spoke over there, and I am figuring in the meals also. The District has a siseable fund and I see no reason why you men who give so much should be penalized with further expense. I want to pay the transportation cost, and expect to take it out of the District fund, which is ample. I talked to Ex- Governor, Homer Ebright about this, and he agrees with me that since we have plenty of money, that we should not add financial expenses to a group of good past District Governors who responded so kindly upon so many occasions. Just drop me a line on give me this information, I will appreciate it. With all good eishes, I an, Rotarily yours, Forrest C. Allen Governor District No. 123 FOA:med
