Dear Harold:

I was happy to have your letter of August 11 and quite agree with you
that your publications will be arriving soon, although they do not move
with the dispatch that the air mail received.

I can imgine how you boys celebrated the real V-J Day. And what
General McArthur and the big boys will do to the Nips froin now on will not
be to the liking of the "So Sorry, Mister" boys. I was delighted to read
this Monday morning's news where General McArthur refused.to receive their
emissaries but saw to it that his subordinates divested them of their
Sumari Swords. That is exactly what these babies need and something a
little tougher. But we'll talk this out when we get together and I will
buy you the best drink that you 6an buy--soft drink, of course, <<at one
of our thirst emporiums which-exist legally in Lawrence. Ha! Ha! Doubt-
less you fellows get something a little stronger and perhaps need it,
but to us civilians we can think of, as a good treat for you boys, a
double-rich chocolate malted milk, :

_ Now, the question that you desire answered, I am very sure, and I an
certain beyond a doubt that if you were withdrawn from school to enter )
service, or if you volunteer to enter service, that none of that year will
be counted against you. I can state with a certainty that they will not
be counted against you. .

Captain Charlie Black of the Air Corps was in yesterday. He had just
returned from. the relocation center at Santa Anma, California, and is to
be stationed for a short while at the Coffeyville Air Base.

I would write you a longer letter, but I will put it in the Rebound
which I am trying to write as soon as I get my emergency correspondence
out of the way. I have been teaching eight weeks in the sumer session,
and that has occupied a good portion of my time. However, I expect to get
at this in the very near future. You will be receiving Rebound No. 18 at
a time not too far in the future.

I aasure you I will welcome you as a member of our squad. It might
be possible for you to be with us in the season coming up. If not, cer~
tainly the next one, and I can assure you that we will present the oppo-
sition with an aggregation that will challenge the very best that they
might have in the way of skills, finesse and battling power.
