My dear Dr. Allen:-

Robert is now in Norfolk Virginia, He writes that in
his Squad there are about 60 men from Texas, Oklahoma Florida
Kansas and other places and that most of them are between
30 and 35 years of age. He feels that he will be able to take
any physical training that the others ean. I think he looked
in the best condition I ever saw him when he left.

He writes that last Friday or Saturday they went to
see the Navy team( Feller and the other big league player?)
play a semi Pro team. One of the Semi Pro men did not show
up and they called for a volun teer from the}stands. obt.
offered his services and suited up but the player cantbefore
he could get in the came. However he sat on the benchhand
coached and in the ninth inning he got a chance to bat and
drew a walk and got on “ase. His only dissapointment was that
he did not get to bat against Feller. I think Robert's
alertness to t ake advantage of the breaks is an asset to him.

Of course the eight weeks away from his wife will seem
like a long time but I write to himevery day and try to kee p
him from getting homesick.

Thanks again for your interest in Robert through
all these years,-you have been a great help to him.
