THE FIRST METHODIST CHURCH 4 SALINA, KANSAS MISS ELOUISE STEWART - MISS MADALEINE KLEPPER SECRETARY ROBERT A. HUNT, MINISTER . PASTOR'S ASSISTANT ss eg August 5, 242 Dr. Forrest Alien, Kansas University Lawrence, Kansas. My dear Dr. Allen:- Thanks for your letter, I knew your advice would be the best. If the other boys are taking their assignments as they come- that is good enough for my boy. It was not my thought to suggest an easy place for my boy, but that if he was to be placed at a base somewhere in America, I wondered if there was any choice in the matter. Robert has never even suggested that he wanted to choosé, he realizes the possibility even of foreign service, and he is determined to make good anywhere he is placed. r Your letter to him was appreciated very much. The training | has been strenuous, but from what he says perhaps the heaviest Saag has passed, or at least he is hardened enough to take the rest of it without difficulty. I think he is working diligently with the thought of making a goodr ecord. He gets his three Uniforms this week, Blue, Mhite and Khaki-- and he is proud of them. I am hoping he may get a short furlough when his training is passed, so he may spend a few days at home, but that is not at all a certahnty. I am keeping busy this week doing odd jobs on the farm and helping to paint the house. The Cummins family live nowat the edge of town on the old home place of t he Edwards family. I may be in Lawrence some day soon and if so I hope to see you for a few minutes. Best wishes to Mrs. Allen and the family. Most cordially, (A art nT _e
