Hickson, 408 Avenue “A", Elk City, Oklahanee Dear Bobby: I was very happy to have your letter of the 13th instant, and I assure you nothing would give the Allens more pleasure than to see you return to Lawrencé.e Answering your inquiry, I might state that the proper person to write to would be Mr. Gwim Henry, Dir- ector of Athletics, University of Kansas. However, I might also state that Mre Earl Falkenstien, who was secured from the Lawrence National Bank some ten years ago, is the financial secretary and is definitely entrenched in this position. In my opinion he is doing one of the best jobs that it is possible to doe Should there be an opening I am sure that you could count on my giving you a fine recommendation. However, Mre Falkenstien is active in the civic life of the cannunity end he numbers his friends by legione He is a particularly conscientious and hard-working individual, as well as being highly efficient. At the present time, Bobby, I do not see any openinge Mre Falkenstien has as his secretary Mrse Imogene Webster, and when the ticket sales come on in the fall and winter he employs same available student help. So the job is not large enough for another individual, and at the present time it is being taken care of in a highly efficient manner. If at any time an opening should occur I will be happy to communicate with yous I will be sure to inform Mrs, Allen and the rest of the Allens that I got this nice letter from you, and you can rest assured of my full cooperation should an opening arise. Ue There recently occurred to me a means of returning to that locality which has become increasingly appealinge The objective I have in mind is employment in the Business Section of the Athletic Department of the University of Kansase This possi= bility is doubly inviting because of my more than common interest in athletics in generale Please understand that I do not mean to ask your intervention in my behalf. I do, however, request the favor of your informed advice as a friend, which I hope is not being too presunptiouse Yom suggestions as to whom to con= tact, procedure to follow, and qualifications necessary, as well as any incidental information available, will be sin= cerely appreciated. I am not particularly dissatisfied with my present employment in the Soil Conservation Service of the U. Se Department of Agriculture, but as I said above, I have always yearned for an opportunity to return to Lawrence. However, I feel that my association with the detail and thorough accuracy required in this work, as well as the practical experience in Property recording and management, and in Procurement, might be of value in the extensive property activities which must be present in an Athletic Department of such consequences Please give my very kindest regards to Mrse Allene I think of "the Allens" often, always with respect and esteame Your convenience in replying to this letter will be respected. Some day I hope that we shall be able to meet when we are not too involved in our respective duties, and have a good visit about the athletic situation throughout the country, and perhaps even the state of the nation. Dear Phog: I have been intending to write you for qite some time, but it seems like I just have not got around to do it. I think you knew that I purchased the parr here at Kearney, and I took active charge the first of the month. I am mMmving a lot of fun on it, and while I am now a Cornhusker, I am still going toget just as much satisfaction as ever whenever Kansas succeeds in taking the Cornhuskers in any athletic contest. What I wanted to write you about is whether therewas any possibility for a job as an assistant trainer for a Kansas City Wes ort high school gra\gAte this year, by the name of John Bergman. His father for years ran bath houses at Sxcelsior Springs and his mother is with the Feldman-Hirsch He@th organization in Kansas City. Mrs. Hill tells me that she really knows her stuff. John has been working for the mens department of Feldman-Hirsch this winter and I think knows considerably more about rubbing than any student you would be able to pick up. He is one of the swellest youngsters I have ever known. He is an Eagle Scout and is a member of the aviation scout unit sponsored by the P W A. He wants to take his college work in aviation engineering. The hook up K U has with the government on . aviation, makes K U the best school he could possibly enroli in. | I expect to be in Kansas City this week end. The family is still living there and will do so until school is out. If there is any chance of you being able to do anything for John on a job, I would appreciate your dropping me a note at 6810 idgevale, Kansas City, and I would get in touch with John this week end, Member Audit Bureau of Circulations—A Leased Wire Newspaper and ask him to follow up with you or whoever he should follow up with. Was of course greatly interested in the sélection of Dean Mallott as the new chancellor. I always thought Dean was one of the brightest fellovs in school at the time I was in school. Alfred has been here at Kearney for me since the first of the year, and left this week with his family f or a vacation ‘trip in the east. Has plans for the future are considerably up in the air. Kindest personal regards, Sincerely, eee P. HILL OPH: EB
