Allen Athletic Director, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas, Dear Sir: Have just received a letter from Chuck telling me about your offer to enter Kansas University. Sounds interesting to the extent that I will be practically putting myself through on your plan at Ry Us- Chuck suggestted that I write to you giving as many facts about myself as I can. Here they are, < Am six feet tall, weigh one hundred and seventy pounds, and am twenty two years of age. Graduated from Schenley High School of Pittsburgh in 1935. Entered University of Pittsburgh Sept. of that year and dropped out after having gone to classes for three months and because I remained in school for three fourths of the term, I received AT the end of the term a transcript with grades on it, all flunks or incompletes. Well I argued and argued but to no avail to have them change their minds, Maintained a" B "—— Ave. in high school, W Worked from the time I left Pitt until I entered George Washington University in Sept. 1937. What a beautifully painted picture I received ef the school only to go there and find out what a place it really was. But decided to stick it out for my Freshman year, which I did. Played on and undefeated Fresiman basketball team, winning sixteen and losing none. And that after we had lost three regulars and two subs, filling in with Freshman | football men. It was about the only real thing I enjoyed my whole year down there, Decided to drop out this year and try to get lined up for this coming year.as it is my main idea to finish school and get my degree, Because I can see that without a College education it is hard to get anywhere in this old world. My grades at G. W. were one "F" in Psychology--second semester, "D"--first semester. "D'--first semester in English, "C"--sencond semester. B, B, B, B, and C, C,in Phystcal Education for the two semesters, Have been to K, U. and know what it is-like, and as I have heard so much about Yourself, Mr. Allen,I feel that I wouln!t be doing anything that I didn't know about’ if I happend to enter K, U. - Would feel it quite an honor to be able to participate under your guidance, and to attend K.
