e J.O. HARRISON, PRESIDENT W.H.HARRISON,V. PRESIDENT M.W.HARDMAN,V. PRESIDENT DAN B.HARRISON, CASHIER THE STATE BANK OF DOWNS : CAPITAL STOCK $35,000.00 SURPLUS $30,000.00 DOWNS, KANSAS = February 4, 1939. Dr. Forrest C. Allen Department of Physical Education, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear "Phog." :— I am a bit slow in answering your very nice letter of January 20th. but expected to get in touch with you when I went through Lawrence last Thursday evening. I stayed all night with "Bing" Smith and thought I would drop across the Street end talk to you but Pete Reedy and his wife called and I couldn't get away as it was late when they left. Vance Hall was mighty pleased with your letter and it was the kind of a letter that just about cinched the matter of where ; ae he is going to School next year. I will be very pleased to accept your - invitation to bring Vance to the Oklahoma-Kansas_ game Feb. 25s] Maymm— g . bring another Senior basketball player with me named Allen Verhage who " is also coming to K.U. next Fall. I just today found that he is planning on K.U., so if you can spare us about three tickets it will be just fine. Hall is weakening and may prove disappointing to a University Coach if he keeps going the way he is at present. Against Osborne High School last Friday night in a game won by Downs 22-19, Hall only made 16 of the 22 points. Osborne was undefeated for the Season and plays mostly Class A Schools. Tuesday against Cawker City Hall made 22 points and last night against a good big Lebanon Team he dropped down to 29 points in a game won by Downs 49-31. This chap is absolutely unspoiled and the Coach says he is the finest fellow to work with a Coach could ask for.I sat with Jim Arnold last night at the game and Jim stated "that Hall just naturally has everything a good forward needs". As a Sophomore he went out for Football at 127#, as a Junior he “ weighed 148, and this Fall reported at 162, so you can see he is still growing, and has gone from a little, fast boy to a big, fast six-footer in a little over two years. With kindest regards and best wishes, I an, Sincerely Yours, - ALN ay ine P.S.— Sorry to note in the papers and in talking with Arnold that you have hadthe misfortune to have to take action with some of your Squad.
