I eam sorry for any cl thins that might have appeared to you
as blatant and "popping off." You have been such a fine gentleman

through all the years that I have mown you that I would dislike very
much to have you feel that I was criticizing you personally or have
you feel that during some moment of anger on my part I said uncom
plimentary thingss —

You have lived too long to be worried about what anybody says,
but I am writing you to tell you that there are no two tentlemen
that I hold in higher esteem than you and Mikes For that reason I
am sending you a copy of two statements that I gave to Norace Mason, |
our Sports Publicity lirector, and he in turn gave them to the newspaper:
boye the Star's correspondent put an altogether different face and
heading on the statement than the marmor in which I said it.

it is not necessary for me to repeat to you that when I have a
convietion on a thing I will state it to the best of my ability, but
I will do it fairly and honestly and courageously enough that ‘there
can be no doubt about what I have saide However, I am just as willing
to accept the other fsllow's argument in rebuke to mine as I am to mike
plain statements coneerning hime For thet reason I assure you thet
anything thet you say or have said will be teken with the finest grace.
