KANSAS STATE COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE AND APPLIED SCIENCE MANHATTAN DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY January 16, 1941 Dr, Forrest C. Allien Department of Physical Education University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear "Phog"; This is a tardy acknowledgment of your kind letter of January 9 relative to some newspaper comments which have been made, You may rest assured that neither Michael nor myself intend to do anything which would affect you personally. We have worked too many years with you to not understand that you have the interests of all at heart, and I mean in a broad sense too. Furthermore, I know how difficult it is to get your ideas into a news- paper with the inferences which you originally meant to be attached to these ideas. When I was commenting over the phone to our corres- pondents I was not then aware the comments were for publicity purposes and had not even read in the paper your statements. They read these statements to me over the phone and I made some remarks that sounded somewhat like the comments the correspondents finally put in the paper. "Mike" and I both think very highly of your knowledge of the national athletic setup and certainly wouldn't want to do anything that vould personally reflect upon you. With best personal regards, I am Very truly yours, LOE i. Hes King Faculty Represéntative Kansas State College HHK s BF
