May 19, 1942. King Motor Co., Hesston, Kansage Dear Mr. Kings I appreciate greatly your very kind letter of the 16th instant regarding Johnny Dewell. You have certainly been most kind and solicitous in endeavoring to land this young man for &.U. ‘Vietor Hurt was Matty Bell's assistant at S.M.U., and he called on Johnny. Vic was quite sure that he was going to attend K.U., but I understand that he has definitely made up his mind for S.MU. During the Kanses Relays we invited the outstanding seniors of the state to come up and shoot goals with the varsity and attend the Relays. Johny wrote that he thought he would come and then later he changed his mind and did not make the trip. I wrote Johmy and had a nice letter from him and I believe at one time he was quite interested _in attending E.U. I remembered what you had told me and I had planned on dropping dow to Newton to see him and while there I was going to ask you over to meet with us. | 3 But Iam pretty definitely sure now that Johnny has made up his mind to attend &.M.U. i understand on good authority that they have mage him a very attractive offer, and mless I am mistaken I do not be- lieve there is much of a chance for us. If you will kindly cheok into is matter with him I will appreciate it, but my source of information pretty good. Again thanking you for your extreme interest, and assuring you that I will be happy to ses you at eny time you come this way, I em a be Very cordially yours, ee ' Direotor of Physical Education and Recreation FOA:AH Varsity Basketball and Baseball Coach.
