Allen The University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Doc, I imagine by this time that you think I am an ungrateful person for not answering your letter sooner. But I have been down on the San Saba flood and have been overworked on the Floyd Hamilton story, both of which you are acquainted with through the press. I can't tell you how much that $20 helped me---but as far as a gift, that is out. I am making good here (as far as the pay envelope is concerned)and shall be able to repay you soon. At present, I am off of sports entirely and working on straight news, markets ami telegraph, but will be back in the sports field shortly. A staff shartage here has been the reason for me being shifted on a variety of assignmmts. Doc, I do hope that we shall meet in the near future so I can tell you how I really appreciate your friendship, and what you have done for mé. I shall write you a letter in the near future, not delaying as I did in this case. VERTICAL RADIATOR - HIGH FIDELITY April 3 ee, Mr. Phog Allen University of Kansas Lawrence, Kansas Dear Sirs As KFJM's Sports Reporter, I have stumbled onto an argument which seems to find no conclusive answer, Here is the question: in basketball, does a team shoot at its owm basket or defend its own basket, in other words, for broadcast purposes does a team attempt to score in its own basket or in its opponents! basket? We have fan letters here quoting encyclopedias, dictionaries, and rule books and still the score is about tied, without conclusive proof on either side. We would welcome having your answer as to which you believe it is, and why you think so, We will appreciate your help in deciding this question which everyone seems to have taken for granted. Yours very truly, Bob Kunkel BK. Dear Mr. Allen:- In reply to your letter, as you know considerable expense was had in establishing our residence in Lawrence for the benefit of our two children, Robert finishing his last year of High School work. ; | I left it up to Robert and his mother to decide during that period, giving it careful thought and study to avoid such problems as are confronting us now. It was his choice as well as his mother's that he proceed in the course he is now taking, knowing that some of our leading men in this line were complete failures same subjects that are Robert's difficulties, with the aid of their teachers finally mastered then. Feel taking your word he has just the two subjects that are failures its useless for him to give up. I am willing to have him go to summer school, take what he is sure of handling and next fall establish our residence again in Lawrence so his mother can be with him helping him. His main fault is rooming with others against our wishes interfering with his studies when he can do better. ; Your interest at heart, am sure you will iron out Robert's difficulties without any changes, perhaps you can line up his studies so he can handle. I have always put it up to Robert, take just enough to be sure he can do justice to his work even if it would take him a year or two longer and be thorough. Trusting we can arrive at some method satisfactory to all, if necessary having a tutor. I remain, Sincerely Yours P.O Row wh a ee Ws tee Bod Be to Gang 2 c.
