Columbia, Mo. January 15, 1938. W. H. Brome, Dr. F. G. Alien, Hugh MeDermott, Frank Root, Gentl emen : It appears that I have thrown a wrench into the machinery with regard to the use of Bask-O-Lite goals. At our meeting I expressed a favorable opinion for the use of these baskets, but only Dr. Allen seemed to have the same idea. The others wanted a further test. | The pair of goals we had were loaned on a 50 day trial. Actually we kept them about six weeks hop to find out what the other schools wished. With no news av le and a decision necessary we decided to return the baskets. o foday a letter from Menze says that all other schools have installed to¢new baskets, It rather puts me out on a limb for Missouri is the only one not using the new goals after its coach had urged their adoption. This report was transmitted to our business manager who says that the decision not to buy this year will not be changed. : ‘From a playing or shooting viewpoint I think that a team will do as well with one basket as with the other. Where Bask-0-Lite goals are installed there will be no need to change to the old type as far as Missouri is concerned, but in Columbia all gemes will be played with old type baskets. To say the least, this lack of uniformity is not wise, but there is no way open now for me to correct it. In the two Colorado games here last week we installed an adaptation a ot satisfaction. A red light was placed above each back board with a manually operated switch at the scorers bench, A student closed the switch as the ball dropped through the basket. With very little practice the boys imitated the flash of the Bask-0-Lite goal with such accuracy that most spectators did not know of the change. We plan to use this signal in all gemes this year. Should several of the conference members protest our use of the old i goals I will request a reconsideration of our decision, Please let me know for I am anxious each of you be satisfied. . Yours truly, George : Edwards.
