February 10, 1943. To Whom It May Concern: I am very happy to write in behalf of Mr. Carl Jessup, a former member of our Department of Physical Fduecation. Mr. Jessup is a gradurte of Wichita East High School, and received his A. B, degree from Friends University in 1936. He attended Kansas State Teachers College at Pittsburg as a special student in the summer of 1938, and the University of Kensas in the summer of 1941. A year ago he was enrolled in graduate work at the University of Kansas and also served as en assistant instructor in our Department of Physical Education. While in high school Carl Jessup lettered in football, wrestling, baseball and the gymmastic team, and was tiice state high school champion in wrestling. In college he parti- cipated. in football four years, wrestling one year, track three years, basketball one year. He lettered in football and was captain two years, and in wrestling he was rumner-up in the Missouri Valley A.A.¥. Mr. Jessup is an excellent teacher and coach. Prior to his coming to the University of Kansas he had four years of high school teaching and coaching, in which he made a fine reputation for himself. He handled his University classes with dignity and confidence and won the respect of his students and colleagues. Carl Jessup is a cleanecut, capable, industrious young man. His cheracter is of the highest, he is intelligent, and cooperative. : I em very happy to recommend him without reservation or evasion. I am confident he will make a valuable officer.
