Dear Mr. Tunney: I am very happy to write you in behalf of Mr. Carl Jessup, who is an applicant for a position as physical instructor in the Training Division of the Bureau of Navigation. Mr. Jessup is a graduate of Wichita East High School, and received his A. B. degree from Friends University in 19356. He attended Kansas State Teachers College at Pittsburg as a special student in the summer of 1938, and the University of Kansas in the summer of 1941. He is at present enrolled in graduate work in education and physical education at the Univer- sity ef Kansas. He has thirty hours of college physical education. During the past semester Mr. Jessup has served as an assistant instructor in our Department of Physical Education, and has also had charge of physical education classes at the Lewrence Junier High School. While in high school Carl Jessup lettered in football, wrestling, baseball and the gymnastic team, and was twice state high school champion in wrestling. In college he participated in football four years, wrestling one year, track three years, basketball one year. He lettered in football and was captain two years, and in wrestling he was runner-up in the Missouri Valley A.A.U. Mr. Jessup is an excellent teacher and coach. Prior to his coming to the University of Kansas he had four years of high school teaching and coaching, in which he made a fine reputation for himself. He handles his University classes with dignity and confidence, and wins the respect of his students and colleagues. We have been very happy to have such a man available for our physical education classes.
