The inscription about which you inquired is as follows:

"Ypon the fields of friendly strife,
Are sown the seeds

That, upon other fields, on other days,
Will bear the fruits of victory." ©

It has been well established that General MacArthur wrote
this. Colonel Koehler liked the sentiment and those a conspicious
spot for its inscription over an arch generally used by cadets.

The name of Koehler does not appear in connection with the

inscription. I am sure that you will be interested to know that some

_ years ago a large impressive bronze plaque was placed in the wall by
the south Gymnasium entrance-way in honor of Colonel Koehler.

I hope everything is going well in the Midwest. LEvery now
and then I read in the papers of some war plant or airfield being
constructed in Kansas, and I judge there are many uniforms seen there-
abouts.

Back here in the East we are having phenty of transportation
troubles. Early returns on our ticket sales indicate more than usual
interest and plenty of money. If people can get to the games, I feel
that we will do.all right.
