Dear Forrest: In looking through the new official rotary 1943 directory received this morning,it gave me quite a thrill to find that both the President and Secretary of the Lawerence Rotary Club were members of the staff at the University of Kansas. The reason, well I happen to have a redheaded son now attending the Army Specialized Training Program at your school, and it just seemed to me that he was "amongst Friends", upon learning that possibly at least part of his Educators were "good old Rotarians". His name is Lewis J Jones, and is located in Room 133, Lindley Hall, and I am sure that he would get quite a thrill and would appreciate greatly, and so would I, if sometime, in your travels you happen to run into him, if you will tell him you are a Rotarian. We had a short one for the five-weeks boys, many of whom were finishing July l. We will not stert our summer basketball prac- tice until after July 12, but I can see now that this boy Moffitt has it. Dear Jonesy: fhanks, old fellow, for your kind epistle dated March 16th. This belated reply is by no means the barometer of my appreciation of your kind words. I might add they didn't convince me until the last game was over, because I was sure something would happen to us. We certainly did a lot of stumbling and falling, but finally struggied through. You must be a rugged soldier, rough and tough, digging through that concrete for a foxhole. If eny of them ask me if you are rugged I will tell them that I got word from you that you were already in one, but I think it is outlandish the prices they charge just to keep a fellow who is smaller than two feet by seven in breadth and length. . , With all good wishes, I am Sincerely yours, Director of Physical Education, FCA :AH Varsity Basketball Coach. March 18, 1943. \ Dr. Forrest C. Allen, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. Dear Phog: I have been intending to write you for sometime mere- ly to add to the many other congratulatory communications I know you have received. It did not take a national poll to convince a lot of us old timers. We have known for years your abilities which other people are just admitting. May I add, too, I hope you have many more great basket- ball teams and I know you will. Best wishes and good luck. Yours v truly, Captain R. E. Jones, 2E 574, The Pentagon, Washington, D. C.
