Allen Director of Physical Education University of Kansas - Lawrence, Kansas Dear Mr. Allen: Thanks for your recent letter. I too was disappointed not to see you in Lawrence but appreciate the fact that you had to be eway. I also appreciate the good word you passed on to Gwin Henry, which helped make it possible for the@Wisconsin Track Team to take a grand trip. I was also sorry not to see my old neighbor Waldemar Geltch. I had planned to see him on Sunday but due to the death of Mrs. Jones' mother, I had to leave immediately afiter the Relays on Saturday, and didn't get back until the day of our dual meet. I've head a letter from Mr. Geltch since I returned and havealso written him. I'm not teaching this summer and plan to go up on the north shore of Lake Superior for a short time with my family. Guy Lowman's recovery is very slow through he is improving. He comes down to the office two or three times a week to take care of administrative work but does no teaching. Under separate cover I am sending you a bulletin of the Education Courses and some mimeographed material on the Physical Education program. We're not offerin thing new. My personal feeling is that most of our ine ti tuti@e tire courses are going to seed as far as this part of physical education is concerned, and they should get back to fundamentals and exercise. With kindest regards, I am July 3rd, 1941 Mr, T, E, Jones Department of Physical Education for Men University of. Wisconsin Madison, Wisconsin Dear Mr. Jones: I have been intending to write you for months. Ever since the date of the Kansas Relays, I wanted to write you and tell you how sorry I was I missed you and failed to have a chat with you. I was out of town most of the time on business connected with the Depart- ment of Physical. Education. This has to do with speaking at High Schools and ot other banquets, and it seemed that during that time I was out of town prac- tically all of the time that you were in Lawrence. I alwo agreed to coach the Varsity baseball team. And, it occurs to me that we were playing at the University of Oklahoma during that period. Then, when you met Kansas in track after the week-end, I was in Wichita and surrounding towns. So, I missed you. My secretary told me that you dropped into the office to say "hello" and I fully expected to write you immediately. Then Commencement dates came on and I was busy until after | examination time. At a faculty meeting I told Waldemar Geltch that you had been in town and he was terribly grieved that he did not get to see you. He said that somehow he had missed the paper and had not learned of your being here. I'm not sure that you're working during the summer at Madison but presume you are working in place of Guy Loman. I understand from several parties that he is feeling no better. Won't you please convey to him and Mrs. Lohman my very best wishes? : Just the other day we received notice from Miss Blanche M, Trilling, director of the Women's Department of Physical Education in Madison, an announcement of their new course approved by the faculty in June, 1941, for General Major. I'm wondering if the Men's Department had an announcement of their course. I do like to follow the trends in other Institutions. And, if you'll be kind enough to send me an announcement of your course, I1] appreciate it. Dear Fog: It was nice to have your letter of August ik4th and I read with a great deal of interest copy of letter which you have written to your basketball men. It did stir old memories and brought back once again to mind the many joys I had at the University and particularly on the basket- ball court with you and the other boys. There is nothing I cherish more in my University life than my basketball exper- ience. I am sorry I was out of town when you were here Wednesday, but even so, I am afraid I could not have played any golf at that time. I have been tremendously busy and it looks very much as though it will continue for a while yet anyway, all of which pleases me, of course. Some way, we will get together this fall, if not before. With best personal regards, Very truly yours,
