We understand that she is an unus- ually fine person and well educated. I hope that if she comes here her work will be highly satisfactory and that it will be a pleasant job for her. It is easy for these mixtures to come into recommendations, as there are so many applicants. I am not at all surprised that such a thing occurred. I hope this finds you well and happy and the school year so near out that you are making big plans toward starting to lure the trout, and here is ae you have lots of luck at it. Sincer yours, a L. S. Allen Director, Physical Education University of Kensas Lawrence, Kansas My dear Dr. Allen: I am in correspondence with a Miss Ruth Baker who, I believe, finished her work at Kensas University this spring in the Department of Physical Education. We are seeking to find a young woman who has finished her work in physical education, but who along with such work as we would wish her to do here would like to take some college subjects. iliss Baker seems to be interested in our proposition, and in her letters I discovered she hes had a very valuable training and experience in the university of Kansas. I write to ask you your judgment of Miss Baker, particularly with reference to her character and influence. We are a church- related college and are anxious that all of our faculty, either fuli- or part-time, are actively interested and connected with some one of our protestant denominations. Especially are we anxious that those who head up our physical education work will be glad to identify themselves with the religious activities of the campus. The fact that Miss Baker was President of the WeAsA. and of the "K" girls would seem to indicate thet she has many of the qualities that we desire aside from professional ability. I might add that if the work of this year is successful, we are hoping to make the position a full-time position in 1939, with a major in physical education for women as well as for men, in view. You may recall that for fifteen years I was Dean of Ottawa University, Ottawe, Kansas, and have only been in Sioux Falls a little over a year. I am finding a very fine work is being done here, but the Department of Physical Education, both for men and women needs considerable development. Very sincerely yours, | We P. Dear Phog: il have your letter of the 2lat concerning Miss Ruth Baker as an applicant for a position in our city schools, and I note that she is rated "Humber One" by your women's department. I shall certainly keep Miss Baker in mind and in case of a vacancy in our schools I shall see to ib that her name is given every consideration. As you know, our superintendent of schools has been ill for several weeks and for that reason I am not able to say just what vacancies we may have. However, I shall see to it that Miss Baker is considered in case there are any places to be filled for which she is qualified, Through an error, your two lettersof May 2 were incorrectly filed and I am sorry that they were not answered. I was interested in what you had to say concerning our Agricultural Hall, out in Kenwood Bark, which was shown to you by Sturat Dunbar. We are giving this hall consideration as a school proposition but there are several angles that must be given consideration. Our board of education has been giving some thought to a new senior high school and its location and size would have a bearing on what utilization we might make of the Agricultural Hall. Howewee, I was glad to get your judgement on the hall and Ft may be that we will be able to work out a satisfactory plan that will include it in our athletic set-up.
