Allen, University of Kansas, Dear Mr. Allen: Just received your letter concerning your book, “Better Basketball", Your suggested introduction con- cerning Boone will be very satisfactory. I am anticipating a great deal of help from this book, Coaching schools are great. My only criticism, and I found I was not alone, is that much is over the heads of a lot of us, I was discharged from the Navy a vear ago and advised to find work which was not too strenuous. I have never played competitive basketball so you can understand my position. I talked with several superintendents who were in a similar position, What I really need is a complete outline of procedure from fundamental drills on through the defense and attack, In short, I don't know my job but aM& willing to spend time learning, My boys are naturals for the "fast break" and “man to man” but have difficulty cetting through a zone which is used considerably around here, Any halp I can get will certainly be appreciated, Thanks a lot for your time and good advice, I've certainly enjoyed knowing you and feel now that coaching is really worth while, Very sincerely yours, Harold W. Whitney.
