Dear Karl: Dr. Bert Nash, the military coordinator, called me this morning and stated that he talked to the shoe men down town and it wasn't necessery to have a ration erder for the shoes. I told him I knew that those people mist be mistaken because all rubber shoes are rationed. Of course the football, baseball and track shoes are not because they have spikes in them, but that is a special dispensation. I asked Bert Nash to call you so that you sould tell him the straight of it. And I also wanted you to under- stand my situation. I am helping these people both in the Army and the Navy in any way that I can, but all the orders are handled through the regular military channels eud, tiat is where my function ceases. I told Dr. Nash that It was necessary in the begiming to have the ration coupon and if there hag been any delay I assure you that it has not been my fault. I want you to get my position clearly. i trust that there will be no great delay due to any uisunderstanding that might have occurred. My dear "Phog": We received today purchase order for the 750 pairs of shoes, but have not as yet received preference rating or shoe ration certificate. We, of course, can do nothing with this order until the shoe ration certificate is received, and naturally, we want the preference rating certificate, too, as early as possible. However, the shoe ration certificate is most important. No sizes were given, either, and of course I can figure this out, but if you have all the boys in school now, I am just wondering how much of a job it would be to have a check made with them for sizes. Could this be done pretty easily - thereby perhaps save a lot of exchanging? Just a thought on my part. Anything that you can do to help along the shoe ration certificate so we can get these shoes off to you will be appreciated. Yours for victory, LOWE §/CAMPBELL H. Mr. Les Freeburg, Lowe & Campbell Athletic Goods Co., 1608 Baltimore Avenues Kansas City, Moe Dear Les: Dr. Frank i. Murley, a dentist of Leonardville, Kansas, came in this morning with his son to have me examine his son's shoulder. The shoulder had been dislocated a number of tines until it is very susceptible to dislocation at the slightest provocation when the arm is raised above the level of the shoulder joint. I have fecommended to him the brace that you firm has made for a number of people. I remember in particular Larry Smith, @ son of Lawrence Smith of Smith-Grieves Publishing Company, The boy was then playing for Pembroke Country Day Sehool. And then you made one for Barly Chestnut's son, Lorraine. . In my book, “Better Basketbali", the brace is desoribed on pages 361~-2~35. I am sure that Dr. Hurley will went a brace lille this made for his som. In some cases doubtless the school would pay for it, but I em sure thet Dr. Hurley is willing to pay for the brace. However, I am wondering if you would be good enough to make him the school price on it since the boy will compete in all sports at Leonardville High School this next year. Mr. Lloyd Miller, the principal, wrote me re- garding the boy, stating that he shows promise in in athletics and that he is eager to participate in football and basketball. I suggested thet perhaps Dr. Hurley could drive in and have your firm take the measvremonts there, but Dr. lMurley was in a rush to get back to his practice and could not drive in today. ould it be possible for Frank Mandeville to write to Dr. Hurley or to Mr. Lloyd Miller, the principal, arid let them know whe he might be in the who makes the braces.
