Dear Dr. Alien; Mre Mandeville learned oarly last week that we received some basketball “seconds” shoes from the factory and asked that we hold some for you, These are the converse "All-Star "black shoes and we have held three size 8, three size 84, three size 9 and three size 10 for you if you can use them. When Mr. Manderville was there recently he had information regarding the shoes that we had on hand which included only a few sizes. That is the reason he told you we did not have some sizes. In make ing a new supply at the factory some “seconds” were available which we received and that is the outfit fromvhich we held shoes for you. Can you use the sizes mentioned? A few more in some other sizes are available now so if you need other sizes you might let us know. Will you please write and send a requisition immediately if you want these shoes shipped? There is a chance that some more of the white shoes will be available and Mr. Mandeville asked that we hold about the same sizes in the these if we receive them. WHOLESALE "MANUFACTURING RETAIL 1809-11-13 BALTIMORE AVE., Mav ss; Cray Mo, September 27, 1938 Miss Ruth Hoover, Dir. Phy. Ed. for Women, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas, Dear Miss Hoovers; On the order which Mr. Mandeville just mailed to us, we have shipped nine No. N583 Field Hockey sticks. These have been directed to Dr. F. C. Allen, Robinson Gymmasium, University of Kansas. You should get the package promptly, After checking our entire stock of these sticks, we found only seven that agree exactly with the specifications sent in by Mr. Mandeville. These have, of course, been ineluded in your shipment with two others that are just slightly off in weight or length, We are inclined to think that you can use the items shipped but anything that you do not want is returnable for full credit at our expense. It is certainly a difficult job to try to get sticks of this kind with the perfect grain and in exact weights that our customers want, The grain problem is almost impossible because the toe of these clubs is turned up which makes it necessary to let the grain run out of the stick somewhere near the end, You will notice that the siight turn-up at the toe seems to affect the grain in almost every stick, The wood in these sticks is not grown in the shape that it is in at the present time but it is steamed and bent to the proper shape for use in Field Hockey sticks. All sticks are treated so that they should not splinter or pull apart within a reasonable period of time, We certainly hope that the selection made meets with your approval and will appreciate hearing from you about the clubs, The clubs have been charged to the school account in the usual way and credit will be given when the other sticks are returned, Very truly yours, LOWE & CAMPBELL ATHLETIS GOODS CO.
