THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS LAWRENCE DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY August 5, 1941 Dr. Forrest C. Allen Dept. of Physical Educstion University of Kens&s Lawrence, Kensas Dear Dr. Allen: This is in confirmetion of our recent chet about the proposed Lewn Bowls court for kK. U. I would like to say that I am much in sympathy with the construction of such a court, end believe it would be a velueble addition to the Campus. The location proposed: 1 ยข - in Fowler Grove, will fit in very well with the general campus development scheme. Some cere should be exercised in order to locete the court exectly on en exis running through the center of Fraser Hell, so that when the Anetomy building is demolished, the effect will be thst of an open lewn- panel on the main axis of the proposed Quedrangle. The fact that the lawn-panel will also be utiliterien mekes the design so much the better. Without meking a study of the srea, I would say that a tile drainage system should be installed, and also a pop- uv watering system. Mascarine-gress, evailable at the Ottewe Nurseries is probebly the best answer to the grass problem, as it is dense, tough, rugged, and will stand very close Clipping. . If I can be of further service in consultation I ghell be gled to oblige. wae) td sare = Wa. Ds Durell Summer Address: oe Black Mt. Road . Brattleboro, Vt.
